Un-Mounting your Wood Stamps

Update: I am no longer selling the cling vinyl for un-mounting.
You can do a Google search for printable inkjet cling vinyl
or check on ebay for sellers.  You can get the PDF I made for
the SU jewel case template HERE if you are using the clear
Stampin' Up! cd cases this will work for that.  Please note
that you cannot add any images to the PDF, what I have been
doing is simply using StazOn black in to stamp the images
directly onto the template once I have printed it.

I have officially started the process of un-mounting my wood sets to the
clear mount system like Stampin' Up! is now offering. (love it!)

This is a fairly easy process, the hardest part is manipulating the
stamp images in your photo editing software to make them the
exact same size as the rubber stamp!

Printing Tips & How I do it:

Please remember to print your image in REVERSE print so
it appears backwards on the vinyl to you so that when you
put the image on your stamp, it is facing the right direction.
When using the ink jet cling vinyl, only put 1 sheet at a time
in your printer, set your print settings to "glossy paper" and
be sure you are printing on the glossy side.

Update  This is How I print my images on vinyl:
This is just "how I" do it and I am always looking for
an easier way.  This part is what I struggle with the most!
Because it seems like the images don't print true to size.
Ok, here goes, I hope this is not to confusing for you:

First, many have asked what photo editing program I use and the
truth is I have several that I use, but the one I use the most and
is fairly inexpensive ($100) is Corel Paint Shop Pro X2.

Here is how I go about getting my Images for the stamps, there
is a bit of trial and error and some fiddling but once you get
going it goes pretty fast.  You can scan images out of
your catalog and use them but this is how I am doing it for now:

First:  I open the PDF  Stampin' Up! catalog  that is available on
the right side of my blog if you need one.

Next: I do a "Print Screen" (CTL>Prnt Scrn button at the same time)
of the stamp set image I want to copy.  You will need to have the image
visable on your screen at the time to copy them this way.

Next: Open your photo program such as Paint Shop Pro or Photo Shop
and copy the image to that program, this can be different for each program.
But for PSP I open a 800 x 800 new image and paste it in there.

Next: Now that your image is in your photo editing program you can crop
and reverse it the way you want and then save it.  In PSP to reverse an
image do this: Image>Mirror and it will turn the photo for you.

Now, the next step is what I do and may or may not be a step that
is helpful to you.  In most programs I have a hard time getting my
images to print out  the exact size of the stamp, keep in mind that this
process is not "perfect" and your image may not be an "exact"
replica but I can get it close enough that I am happy with it.  OK, so
I open Microsoft  Publisher and import my picture into that program.
Then, I manipulate the picture to be what ever size I want by grabbing
the corners of the image and adjusting. I usually have to adjust and print
a couple times and match up with the stamp image before I am
happy with printing it onto the vinyl.

Once happy with how my image is going to print out, I print onto the
vinyl, I let it dry  (about 5 minutes) and then I start to un-mount the stamps.

Sometimes I get what I want printed onto the vinyl, print my CD Cases
and I am ready to go into full swing and get several sets done at one time.

I hope this isn't all to confusing for you.  BTW: You can download a 30
day trial of
Paint Shop Pro X2 HERE if you want to give it a try.

There are some other fantastic FREE programs out on the net that
can help you with the imaging for your stamps that I suggest.  You
really do not need to run out and buy any program as these programs
are quite sufficient to do the job.  Here are some suggestions and ones
that I have on my computer and use daily:

Open Office:  This is a free suite of excellent products that are very useful.

Inkscape: Again free with a ton of features.  If you have a Cricut,

this is a great prodcut to make SVG cut files!

FYI: I have tried printing images from MDS (My Digital Studio) and
those are not printing exact to size either.

Here is a printing tip from one of my blog readers:
I thought I'd share this tip with anyone that has a mac (and maybe pc too, not sure
as I haven't had a chance to try it).

Open up the catalog in Preview and go the page your image is on. Click file save
as JPEG. This creates a jpeg file of just this page and this seems to keep the images
true to size as you bring them into your photoediting software (in my case Photoshop
Elements) by using "open" instead of starting a new file from scratch. And although
I haven't printed off all the sets so far so good. No needing to putz with resizing and
multiple printing :)

Thanks Anna!

I have a printable template of the DVD case insert that you can
use as a template click HERE to get it for free.

Remember that Sale-A-Bration is in progress and for every $50 you
spend (before tax/shipping) you get to pick ONE item from the
Sale-A-Bration catalog HERE.  If you would like to place
an online order for the DVD cases thru my store you can do that HERE.

Have fun and I would love to hear your thoughts!

Thanks for this video. I will definitely be doing that with some of my retired sets I just can't part with. BTW when you refer to how long you put the block in the microwave the printed portion says 10 minutes while you say 10 seconds. Joyce T

Quick idea of how to get the exact size of your stamp: would it work to actually stamp your image in black ink on white paper and then scan that into your photo editing software? Then all you have to do is reverse the image and print. Seems like less work than trying to resize to the exact dimensions...
