Greetings Stampers!
Something a bit different for you today! Here is a peek at
what I have been working on. I have needed a break from
the usual and while rummaging around my studio the other
day getting all my Ebay stuff ready, I happened upon a huge
box of Polymer Clay and a million clay tools!
I was laughing because some of the clay in the box
must have been....oh my gosh....10 years or more?
Some of my local readers will get a laugh because
some of the Polymer Clay still had price tags from
when we used to have a Ben Franklin store in our
local town....now that has been many years ago!
The cool thing, is that much of that old Polymer
Clay is still good and use able! Can you believe
that?
So instead of ditching all my Polymer Clay and
tools on Ebay I decided to keep them and play
around.
My projects today are magnets that are made using
my rubber stamps and Polymer Clay. I am using
the Sculpey clay. I was going for a more "natural"
look with my pieces. For the top piece, the leaf...
I used my pasta machine and rolled out a flat
piece of clay in a tan color. Using the leaf stamp
from the set #113232 Le Jardin Botanique.
Once my clay was flat using the pasta machine
to roll it out, I inked the stamp using StazOn black
ink and directly stamped the image into the wet clay.
Then, I used a cute scalloped circle cookie cutter
and cut out the image before baking in my oven
to cure the clay. Once the piece was baked and
cooled, I used my sanding blocks and sanded the
surface of the clay to give it an organic feel. After
that, I got out some of my alcohol inks and washed
the piece in the ink and then wiped it off to give
it an antiqued effect. I let the ink dry and then
used my Sizzix Circles #2 die to cut a piece
of magnet for the back.
Do you recognize the cute bottom magnets?
I used the #114314 Happy Together stamp set with
the little Partridge's! I love them, the are so darn cute.
For the clay base I used a bronze sparkle clay and
stamped the Partridge's directly into the wet clay
however I did not use any ink this time around. I
did find out that it is easier to wet the stamp a bit
before touching it to the clay other wise the stamp
sticks in the clay. Once the birds were stamped,
I simply cut them out with cutters. For the mama
bird I had a cookie cutter big enough but for the
baby birds I had to use the top from one of my
bottles of shimmer paint! ha..ha.. Once the birds
were baked and cured, I let them cool off and used
some metallic rub on stuff I had to rub on a bit
of chocolate to highlight the birds. Now, because
the little Partridges are so small, I had to use the
3/8" circle punch to cut the magnet material,
I was surprised that the punch went thru the magnet
like butter!
You never know what "craft from the past" you are
gonna find when you are cleaning out your cupboards...
I wonder if I will find any macrame stuff from when
I used to make the hanging planters, wow that was
a hundred years ago! LOL
Let me know if you have questions, I am NOT a
Polymer Clay guru or anything but I fully intend
on keeping it on my workspace to play with
for a bit.
Thanks for stopping by, have a great day!
